Harland tried the jaw gadgets and the daily gum, and none of it stuck. Wearing a Reviv guard at night did. Harland started on the R2, switched to the R3, and breaks down which one to get and why.

R2 vs R3

Which one should you get?

The two guards Harland talks about, and who each is for.

Reviv R2

For mouth breathing

  • Thicker, with fewer holes
  • Built mainly to curb nighttime mouth breathing
  • A little bigger in the mouth

Reviv R3

The newer all-rounder

  • Slimmer, sleeker and more comfortable
  • More holes, designed to support the jaw
  • Easier to keep wearing every night

Both hold your jaw in position while you sleep and help stop the grinding. This page is for the R3.

Why the R3

What Harland likes about the R3

Why Harland landed on the R3 over the others. Personal experience, not a promise.

🛌

Holds your jaw while you sleep

Worn overnight, it keeps the jaw in position so the grinding settles. "It aligned my jaw exactly where it needed to be while I was sleeping."

😌

Slimmer and more comfortable

The R3 is thinner than the R2, which makes it easier to actually keep wearing. "It's slicker and slimmer, so much more comfortable, easier to get into the habit."

⬆️

The newest in the lineup

The R3 is the latest model, built on everything they learned from the earlier ones. "They took all the notes and all the complaints and put it into this design."

How to use

Find your size

Confused about size? Measure your width.

One measurement decides it: the width across your back molars.

A fresh apple cut in half
1. Cut a fresh apple in half, across the middle.
Upper-teeth imprint pressed into the apple flesh Width · molar to molar
2. Press your upper teeth in firmly, then lift straight out.
3. Measure the width. From the outer edge of one back molar to the outer edge of the other, in millimetres.
4. Match your size. Compare your width to the chart below to pick Medium, Large or XL.
SizeWidth, molar to molar
Medium50 mm or less
Large51 to 56 mm
XL57 mm or more

Tips: use a crisp, firm apple, make sure your teeth are clean and dry, press down evenly, and measure carefully in millimetres. No apple? Cut a piece of cardboard to the shape of your upper arch, or measure the width of a current retainer.

What to expect

Consistency is the whole game

  • Weeks 1-2: the adjustment phase. A little soreness or extra saliva is normal, your soft tissue is adapting, not a sign anything's wrong.
  • Build up gradually: shorter daytime sessions first, then overnights. Ease off for a bit if it ever gets sharp.
  • Over the months: the changes Harland talks about came from wearing it consistently at night over the better part of a year, not from wearing it harder.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How should I start?

Wearing it: the standard pattern is overnight plus 2 to 3 hours during the day. Build up gradually with shorter daytime intervals first. The early phase is the hardest and gets much easier after a few weeks.

Early discomfort: sore teeth, achy gums and extra saliva in the first weeks are the soft tissue adjusting, not a problem. Take breaks if it gets sharp, don't push through pain.

Faster results: consistency first, then simple stretches like Bite and Hold alongside the guard.

How does sizing work?

Width matters most. Measure the outer edges of your upper molars at their widest point, shown in this size guide video.

Medium (46mm) fits teens and smaller mouths, Large (53.6mm) fits most adults, and XL (59.6mm) is for larger mouths.

Why does it work?

Think of the soft tissue over the skull like a balloon. Grinding your teeth down deflates it over time, what we tend to call "aging." Adding height back with gentle, consistent pressure runs the same physics in reverse.

How many people have done this?

Over 30,000 people have started using Reviv appliances and this method.

What is it made of, and what's included?

Premium soft silicone, food-grade tested. Your order is the R3 in your chosen size and colour, with its storage case and instructions, backed by a 1-year warranty.
