Teeth must move for the Reviv process

Teeth must move for the Reviv process

Teeth need to be able to move with the Reviv process

So my recommendation is to AVOID wearing braces, aligners, or retainers while undergoing the Reviv process.

Can You Do Reviv While Wearing Braces, Aligners, or Retainers?

Many people ask if they can continue using a retainer, aligners, or braces while following the Reviv process.

The answer is simple: No.

Here’s why.

What Does the Reviv Appliance Do?

As discussed many times on this Substack, the Reviv appliance works by stretching soft tissue.

  1. The curve of Spee improves.
  2. The arches expand.
  3. The jaw moves.
  4. The skull and spine adapt.

All of these changes affect how the teeth sit. Beyond that, the teeth themselves untwist and upright naturally.

In the early stages, these shifts occur daily, and over time, the pace slows down.

Braces, Aligners, and Retainers Prevent This Movement

Braces, aligners, and retainers lock the teeth in their current positions, preventing the natural movement described above. Since teeth function as part of the surrounding soft tissue, they move as the soft tissue expands and shifts.

However, if they are anchored in place by braces or aligners, this movement is significantly restricted—possibly even eliminated.

While I have never personally tested Reviv in conjunction with braces, my belief is that their presence would largely cancel out the intended effects.

The Reviv Process Straightens Teeth Naturally

People often argue that they want to keep their braces because they still want straight teeth. However, braces force teeth into position without addressing the underlying soft tissue structure.

This is why I consider braces a shortcut that doesn’t yield long-term benefits. Once the retainer is removed, the teeth tend to shift back because the soft tissue dictates their natural position.

Reviv, on the other hand, moves teeth correctly—through soft tissue adaptation!

  1. The arches expand naturally.
  2. The tongue improves its resting position against the roof of the mouth.
  3. The conditions for straight teeth develop organically.

Simply using Reviv—or a similar mouthguard—supports this natural alignment. There are countless examples of kids using Myobrace who experience the same results. And yes, adults can achieve similar improvements.

I recall a woman from my old TMJ-related Facebook group who shared a dramatic transformation of her palate and teeth in just nine months using Myobrace and myofunctional exercises.

If an adult can achieve that without braces, why would anyone opt for orthodontic devices that will only require further correction later?

Will Your Teeth Become Crooked Again If You Remove Your Braces?

Another common concern is whether teeth will become misaligned if retainers or braces are removed.

Based on theory and observation, my answer is: If you follow the Reviv process consistently—wearing it during sleep and for 1-2 hours during the day—your teeth should remain aligned.

The key reason is that Reviv expands the available space, allowing teeth to shift naturally without crowding.

Crooked teeth are primarily a result of limited space in the mouth. When enough space exists, the tongue exerts sufficient pressure to guide teeth into alignment. In fact, the tongue has approximately ten times the force required to move a tooth.

By expanding the palate, Reviv creates the necessary real estate. From there, the tongue and soft tissue handle the rest.

Final Thoughts

To summarize: Reviv will not be effective—or at least not optimally effective—if you are wearing braces, aligners, or retainers.

For some, this realization may require a leap of faith. You’ll need to decide whether to complete your orthodontic treatment before beginning Reviv or take a different path altogether.

I am not a dentist, nor do I ‘treat’ patients—I simply guide individuals through the Reviv process.

It’s up to you to assess the facts and decide whom to trust.

Some may choose to follow their orthodontist’s advice. Personally, I have seen too many people suffer from traditional orthodontic interventions.

To me, orthodontists are no better than used car salesmen. They get no respect from me, and I will continue to challenge their industry until it ceases to exist—because, in my view, it shouldn’t.

That said, if you decide to continue with braces or aligners, it’s not the end of the world. Just know that whatever changes they create will likely need to be undone later through Reviv.
